                                                   Garbage & Recycling

Garbage pickup is every Tuesday.  

Residents may place one 90 gallon container at the curb for pick-up.  If you need additional cans picked up a tag may be purchased at City Hall before garbage collection.  All cans should be at the curb by 7:00 am. 

Recycling will be picked up on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month.  There is not a limit.

 

Garbage cans are owned by Town & Country in Rock Rapids, Iowa while the Recycle bins are owned by the City of Everly.

Items that may be recycled include:

Plastics:  milk & antifreeze jugs, dish washing liquid, laundry & shampoo bottles, etc.  (#1-5)  Please clean container.  Place lids in the garbage.

Paper & Cardboard:  newsprint, computer paper, brown paper bags, corrugated cardboard, magazines.  Please keep dry.  Phone books & catalogs need to be no thicker than 1/2 inch.

Tin Cans:  please rinse, clean and remove labels as much as possible.

Aluminum Containers:  disposable foil containers, foil wrap, foil pie plates, aluminum pans, foil TV dinner trays, aluminum cans.  Rinse, clean and crumple it up.

The City Garbage hauler will accept the following large items anytime during the year so long as a tag has been purchased from City Hall.

The City of Everly sponsors city wide Clean Up Days in the spring & fall of each year.

Do you have household hazardous materials that need to be disposed of?  The City of Everly is a participating member of the Northwest Iowa Area Solid Waste Agency so that residents may benefit from their services.

Household Hazardous Materials include but are not limited to the list below.

  • Automotive products - These products include antifreeze, brake fluid, cleaners, degreasers, fuels, lead-acid batteries, oil, oil filters, waxes and windshield washer fluid.

  • Batteries - Rechargeable batteries such as Ni-Cad, Ni-Mh, Lithium and automotive batteries.  Remember: If it's RECHARGEABLE, it's RECYCLABLE!

  • Cleaning Products - These include polishes, drain cleaners, oven cleaners, stain removers, rug/upholstery cleaners, etc.

  • Fluorescent bulbs/compact fluorescent bulbs - These contain mercury vapor and should be handled with care.

  • Mercury containing devices - such as fever thermometers, thermostats, mercury switches.

  • Propane Cylinders - Small propane cylinders are accepted.  Cylinders larger than 20 pound size are accepted on a case-by-case basis.

  • Solvents - such as paint stripper and paint thinner.

  • Waste Paint – Oil based paints are free, there is a $1 per gallon for Latex.

  • Pesticides (bug and weed killers) - The best way to dispose of a small amount of these products is to use it.  DO NOT use banned pesticides; instead, bring them to the RCC for proper disposal.  Some examples of banned pesticides are:

    • Aldrin

    • Chlordane

    • DDT

    • Dieldrin

    • Dursban

    • Silvex

    • 2,4,5-T
